A Personal View of Rebecca’s Secrets

ratings5stars

Rebecca’s Secrets – I bought this book a while ago and made the mistake of only putting time aside to read a few pages at a time which is not what it deserves. Coming across it again recently I took it on holiday and then found myself reading it in under two days – I could not put it down.

The story has been described by others but what makes this such compulsive reading is the raft of emotions invoked in the reader, from concern for Tommy as he goes through his difficult upbringing, to curiosity about his family, to anger about the behavior of his mother, to concern as to whether he will make it through all his tribulations, to disbelief that people can treat one another so badly, to relief when Tommy makes it through.

Brings alive for the reader what it must have been like living in the east end of London through such difficult times, with wonderful descriptions that make you feel that you were there; this is a book that involves and absorbs you.
