A Lovely Book

ratings5stars

Rebecca’s Secrets – I have just read this book. It is WONDERFUL!!! I found it so compelling that I read the whole book yesterday while sitting in the sun – taking just a short break for lunch.

Robert Hart’s autobiographical novel, Rebecca’s Secrets is a fascinating story about growing up in 1950s London.

My heart was entirely captivated by that lovely boy and there was so much in the story that was familiar. My husband grew up in London at the same time. He too played on bomb sites throwing bricks and hiding behind barricades. He too walked home from school through the smog. He too had a Jewish Grandma (and therefore knows much of the same Yiddish vocabulary) and a Granddad who used to be a boxer. My own childhood in the Derbyshire countryside was more like Cider with Rosie – but after 37 years of marriage I know his stories as well as my own.

I heartily recommend this lovely story.
